Welcome
to compostcrates.co.za. We manufacture and supply quality compost crates
for light commercial and domestic use. Our Enviropost crates are treated
against insect infestation and can withstand the harsh African climate.
All crates are guaranteed for 2 years on materials
and workmanship and
we know they will serve you well.
Gone are the days of the unsightly heap in the garden corner. The
tapered shape allows you to lift the crate off
the compost leaving
a neat heap behind. In the early stages of composting the heap can
then be turned back into the crate positioned next to the original
heap. Add a layer of your matured compost at the top (which also controls
flies) and you can actually plant fast growing veggies on top while
Mother Nature runs the show down below. The large
crate capacity is close to 2 cubic metres, the equivalent of 65 nursery
bags of compost (65 x R11/bag = R715), but you can select the size best suited to your
garden.
The Enviropost Crate supports the principles of making compost:
1. It allows you to easily build a compost pile in sandwich-like layers to encourage the alternation of green and wet materials with dry,
withered matter.
2. The size and shape of the crate is optimised to contribute to compaction,
heating and insulation.
3. The vented sides ensures good aeration, which allows the growth
of aerobic bacteria needed for good decomposition.
Once you've started making compost you will realise just how much
plant material you have been dumping, only to buy the same material
back from nurseries. It is easier than you think, and even if you don't
take it that serious you will still end up with reasonably nutritious
compost.
For years we have been dumping millions of tons of garden waste into
landfills without blinking, but today we have to face facts: The capacity
of landfills is finite and the costs of maintaining them are growing.
It is estimated that home waste could be reduced by 35 percent if feasible
material is composted at home.
