The table below lists
the standard sizes of crates available. We recommend that you use 2 crates.
Some of our customers are already using 3 and we will soon install a
fourth for a 7200 square metre (2 acre) stand.
Determine your requirements on the nature of growth in your garden
as well. A leafy 1800 sqm stand produces enough material to justify 2
Large (L) crates.
When ordering crates please keep in mind that you have
to be able to get it to the intended site. Some garden gates are quite
narrow ...

During decomposition the volume of the material obviously decreases.
You may find that an overfilled crate can be topped up after a few weeks
again. This is acceptable since the newer material will end up at the bottom
of the crate again when the compost is turned. The intervals between turns
depends on the season and the location of the bin. Compost needs sun and
also sufficient moisture - yes, you may need to water your compost now
and again - to keep the process alive. In summer the turn interval can
be as short as 8 weeks and in winter as long as 16 weeks. All depends on
sun, material, activator and moisture.
We also provide a leaflet with tips on compost making with
each crate.
